HP TouchPad Arriving In The UK This April

The world’s first webOS tablet from HP, the TouchPad, will begin arriving at UK retailers this April, rumours have revealed.

Hewlett-Packard will reportedly push the release date of its TouchPad forward to claim a slice of the tablet market before Apple rolls out its iPad2 in spring, according to DigiTimes, citing sources from HP’s “upstream component partners”.

Initially slated for launch in September this year, the TouchPad will become the world’s first tablet to run the third version of Palm’s operating system, webOS.

Rumour also has it that HP will start shipping the device around the end of March so that Brits can purchase the TouchPad as early as April.

The price tag remains unknown. However, the company aims to ship 4-5 million units of its tablet PCs before the year’s end.

The TouchPad will feature a 9.7-inch multi-touch display with 1024 x 768 screen resolution and a front-facing 1.3-megapixel webcam for video chats.

It will have 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, which promises full multi-tasking, and comes with either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage.

The device has strong business features and good attention to detail, including the “Touchstone” feature that allows data transfer to phones.

Meanwhile, the company is also expected to start consolidating its smartphone and tablet ranges, to allow the webOS operating system to run on a variety of HP’s products in the future.
