HP has added EliteBook Revolve, an enterprise-grade hybrid tablet, to its Windows 8 line-up, at the HP Discover event in Frnkfurt.
Revolve is HP’s second tablet aimed at the business user, and features a full keyboard with a pivoting touchscreen that allows simple sharing of workspace. When the keyboard is not needed, the display can be reversed, and Revolve starts to look like a regular tablet.
HP says that the device offers “security, productivity and manageability” necessary in a work environment. It has also released a new Multi-Tablet Charging Module which can charge up to 10 devices using just one power outlet, perfect for organisations which adopt HP products en-masse.
EliteBook Revolve is expected to be available in March 2013. There is currently no information on pricing.
Revolve, designed for recently released Windows 8, features an 11.6-inch HD display covered with Gorilla Glass 2, and is powered by a third-generation Intel Core processor. Intel Rapid Start Technology and a Solid State Drive allow the device to boot up in just 5 milliseconds.
The hybrid is housed in a durable all-magnesium chassis, and weighs 1.4 kg, which is slightly heavier than an average tablet. Enterprise users will be particularly happy about extended connectivity – Revolve features 3G WWAN, USB 3.0, a DisplayPort, NFC and an embedded, certified TPM security chip for data encryption. It also includes a 720p camera and dual-microphone array for HD videoconferencing.
Being an EliteBook, the newcomer comes packed with software features expected of an enterprise-grade machine such as a range of client management solutions, BIOS protection, Active Directory and PXE boot support, and four years of HP Absolute Data Protect coverage.
“Employees want computing devices that work the way they do—flexibly and able to adapt to any situation,” explained Gerwald van der Gijp, director of commercial products at HP’s Personal Computer Business Unit.
“HP is committed to ensuring its Elite portfolio of tablet solutions will provide customers the features their employees need for maximum productivity, with a design they’ll be proud to carry everywhere they go, all without sacrificing the enterprise services and protection that take the headache away from IT,” he added.
