Google is to start revealing its new look logo and search homepage to the world, following similar moves by its tech rivals.
Last month Yahoo unveiled its new logo and Microsoft has also revamped the look for its Bing search engine.
Google’s redesign includes a newer “flatter” looking logo. It said it has refined the colour palette and letter shapes of the Google logo.
The company also revealed in a blog posting that over the next couple of weeks, it will be rolling out its new App launcher style navigational menu. This new menu will be located next to the Share and account info icons on a web page.
And as part of the change, Google said it is also dropping its black navigation bar located at the top of all Google’s online services.
“Getting around Google should be seamless, and once you’re inside an app, you don’t want any distractions. So we’re introducing an updated Google bar that streamlines your experience across products and devices,” said the company.
“Your Google products are now accessible under a new app launcher, located at the top right of the screen,” said Google. “Just click on the familiar ‘Apps’ grid, also present on Android devices and Chromebooks.”
It is the first major change to Google’s logo since 2010.
And the homepage changes come after it introduced the black toolbar in the summer of 2011 to allow for Google+ integration. The look of Gmail and Google Maps have also updated in the past. In January this year Google also removed the horizontal toolbar at the top of the screen in favour of a drop-down menu, but then opted to drop that change.
These changes come as other companies also change their look and overall designs. Micro-blogging service Twitter was updated to allow for the easier implementation of brand pages. And Facebook was also redesigned with the introduction of its Timeline profile pages.
