Free Expo Takes Data Centres Beyond PUE
New ways to build and track efficient data centres will emerge at a free show in Germany – along with the gritty reality
While data centre managers are working on how to improve their systems’ efficiency, a free event in Dusseldorf next week could give them some pointers.
The DataCentre Expo, on 16-17 September, has a free 30-speaker conference alongside an exhibition, and also includes free training sessions from CNet Training on two key data centre issues: the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centers, and the vexed question of whether the Green Grid’s PUE measure is really good enough to measure data centre efficiency.
Cloud and Grit are covered too
While more extensive conferences charge delegates money, Data Centre Expo’s idea is to put together a good programme within a budget that can be covered by exhibitors at the attached trade show. Event organiser Eddie Milton explains: “This is a good exhibition by any standard, free or not.”
As well as the training sessions, provided by CNet training, there is a two-track, two-day conference covering areas such as:
- The move from disks to solid state storage (Alex McDonald of SNIA)
- Virtual desktop infrastructure (Enrico Albertin of Cisco)
- Carbon pricing regulations (Dr Graeme Creasey of Digital Realty Trust)
- On-site renewable energy (Ian Bitterlin of Prism Power)
- Energy efficiency (Jim Hearndon, of the Green Grid / Dell)
There’s also a “CloudStorm” session – vendors pitching the benefits of new cloud models in a theatre.
It also gets down to gritty reality, including a session on the “silent enemy”, dust and dirt particles, given by Alan Fisher, of Dycem.
