F-Secure To Launch ‘Anti-Snooping’ Cloud Storage With Younited

Finnish security company F-Secure is to launch a cloud storage service designed to keep governments out of personal data and make life simpler for consumers.

Younited brings together all users’ various cloud storage vaults, from Dropbox to Skydrive to Google Drive, and puts them in one secure place, according to F-Secure.

There is no launch date yet, but F-Secure has placed plenty of marketing material for Younited online.

F-Secure’s cloud push

“Already using Facebook, Picasa or Dropbox? Get them all younited and have everything in one safe place,” F-Secure wrote on its Younited website.

Company CEO, Christian Fredrikson, told TechWeekEurope last month the company was to focus more on consumers and create cloud services that were “cool”. Younited looks set to be central to that strategy.

F-Secure is also keen to jump on the NSA surveillance leaks, which have shown intelligence agencies across the world are carrying out massive spying campaigns on citizens, with the help of major cloud companies, including Microsoft, Google and Facebook. All those companies have sought to clear their name and become more transparent about what they do with government.

“Younited is created and hosted by F-Secure in Finland. We believe in people’s right to privacy. No spying. No backdoors,” the company wrote.

When it comes to keeping data secure, the Finnish firm believes it is well situated to provide an alternative to other US and European cloud providers.

“We wanted to provide you with a place where privacy is guaranteed and your stuff remains yours. We say NO to the prying eyes of governments and we don’t sell your information to advertisers,” the Yousendit about page read.
