EE To Create 300 Jobs At New Derby Customer Service Centre

EE is set to create 300 new jobs at a customer service centre in Derby as the operator continues its bid to have the best customer support of any UK mobile network.

The centre forms part of the company’s plans to return 1,000 jobs to the UK from call centres abroad, and follows the opening of another centre in Derry last month.

EE says it has invested £6 million in the East Midlands city since 2012, including in the rollout of its 4G network, and hopes the new positions will help boost the local economy, with youth unemployment rates in Derby now at 21 percent.

EE Derby jobs

“The opening of our new call centre in Derby is the second UK contact centre we have opened in just a few weeks,” said EE CEO Olaf Swantee. “It underlines our investment in the UK as well as our determination to make EE number one for service in the UK telecoms sector.

“The benefits for our customers are clear as the performance of UK call centres are shown to exceed that of those overseas. But, just as importantly, today’s announcement shows our significant investment in the UK is not restricted to our network and demonstrates a continued commitment to job creation for communities across the country.”

Earlier this year, EE announced plans to increase its original target of taking on 500 new apprentices by the end of 2015 to 1,300. The company wants to offer the majority of these apprentices full time positions within EE.

“This is great news for both Derby and EE customers, who are set to be benefit from top customer service,” added communications minister Ed Vaizey. “EE is making a real commitment to the UK by recognising the strength of our workforce with this new customer centre in Derby.”
