EE Mobile Wallet Can Be Used To Pay For London Bus Travel

EE customers with a compatible NFC-enabled smartphone can now use their device to pay for travel on London buses with the ‘Cash on Tap’ mobile wallet.

Contactless payments have been possible on the capital’s bus network since December 2012, with cash payments abolished in the summer.

EE says the service will remove the need to top up an Oyster card and prevents the potential problem of card clash. The operator also claims journeys will cost no more than they would with Oyster, with fares costing £1.45 per journey and capped to £4.40 per day or £20.20 between Monday and Sunday.

“More people use London’s buses than all the other bus services across the country combined, so the need for speedy and simple payment solutions is paramount,” says EE’s chief consumer marketing officer Pippa Dunn. “That’s why we’ve been working hard to bring our contactless mobile payments service, Cash on Tap, to TFL’s network – removing the need for customers to queue for a ticket, or hunt through their pockets and bags to find the right card.”

Cash on Tap is available from the Google Play store and is compatible with a number of Android handsets, including the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One and Sony Xperia Z2. EE says that because it has been developed with MasterCard, it’s as secure as using a contactless card.

Passengers on the London Underground, Docklands Light Railway and Tramlink will also be able to use Cash on Tap to pay for travel when contactless payments are enabled from 16 September, following a successful trial.
