Nine new towns and cities are connected to the EE 4G network, bringing the total number of LTE-covered locations in the UK to 27.
Amersham, Bolton, Chelmsford, Hemel Hempstead, Southend-on-Sea, Stockport, Sunderland, Sutton Coldfield and Wolverhampton have all been added to the network.
EE 4G is currently the UK’s only 4G operator having been granted permission by Ofcom to launch such a service using its existing spectrum. The company says that its 4G service is now available to approximately 45 percent of the UK population and that rollout is ahead of schedule, just 90 days after EE 4G launched in October.
EE has pledged to cover 35 cities by March this year, with Bradford, Coventry, Doncaster, Dudley, Leicester, Luton, Newport, Reading, Rotherham, St Albans, Watford and West Bromwich previously mentioned as candidates.
The service is also available in Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Derby, Edinburgh, Hull, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Maidenhead, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield, Slough, Southampton and Glasgow.
“We continue to bring superfast mobile to more and more people, whether they’re using their devices outdoors or in their homes and offices, and to increase the speed and consistency of our 4G and 3G network across the UK,” added Swantee.
Existing EE 4G cities will also have their network density improved as part of a drive to improve coverage. This will be achieved by doubling the number of masts on a daily basis until the EE 4G network matches that of its 2G and 3G services. EE also hopes this will improve capacity as more and more customers sign up for its LTE service.
A report last year suggested that only around 40 percent of Manchester was covered by the EE 4G network.
