EE 4G SIM-Only Price Plans Delayed

EE has postponed the launch of its SIM-only EE 4G plans by two weeks due to delays in the testing process.

The operator has apologised for the delay to the plans, which start at £21 a month and include unlimited texts and calls. The UK’s first commercial 4G network began operating last week after EE was given permission to launch an LTE service on its existing spectrum.

EE 4G SIM-only delays

“Sorry folks – there’s been a date change for our SIM-only plans,” said EE on its Twitter account. “We expect to bring them in the next 2 weeks. Stay tuned for the new date.”

“Our 4GEE SIM only plans will now be launching within the next two weeks,” a company spokesperson told TechWeekEurope. “We know many customers are keen to get their hands on our SIM only plans and we are looking forward to offering them as soon as our testing process is complete. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

EE 4G is currently available in ten cities, London, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield and Glasgow, with another six due to come online before Christmas.

Those wishing to take advantage of the faster speeds offered by 4G must currently take out a data plan with a handset. Contracts start at £36 a month, but this includes a relatively meagre data allowance of 500MB, with no unlimited data bundles offered.

EE CEO Olaf Swantee acknowledged that the feedback on social networks was “quite interesting”, but defended the company’s offerings.

Other major UK operators are expected to launch similar services in Spring 2013 once the sale of spectrum has been completed.
