EE 4G Comes To 10 More Towns And Goes Double Speed in Three More

EE 4G coverage has expanded to ten more towns, while Belfast, Newcastle and Southampton have been added to the list of ‘Double speed’ cities, as the UK’s only current LTE operator continues to steal a march on its rivals ahead of the expected launch of rival services later this summer.

Altrincham, Bedford, Camberley, Crawley, Farnborough, Farnham, Maidstone, Rochdale, Tonbridge and Welwyn Garden City can now access the EE 4G network, bringing the total number of places covered to 95 towns and cities, or almost 60 percent of the UK population.

There are now 15 double speed cities in the UK, including Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Nottingham and Sheffield, allowing users to access speeds of up to 60Mbps and averages of between 24 and 30Mbps.

EE 4G coverage

The first double speed cities went live earlier this month, with CEO Olaf Swantee declaring EE 4G was the fastest mobile phone network in the world.

“Today we’re launching in a further 10 UK towns bringing superfast 4G services to more and more businesses and consumers,” announced Swantee. “The arrival of double speed 4G in a further three cities means we remain one step ahead, and on track to provide our customers with a world leading mobile experience.”

EE has enjoyed a 4G monopoly since it launched late last year, but will face competition from O2, Three and Vodafone, all of whom won spectrum for LTE services in the recent Ofcom bandwidth auction.

The operator has responded by offering users the chance to double their data allowances for the life of their contract if they sign up for a 4G plan before 30 September and by introducing EE 4G shared plans for consumers and businesses.
