Dell Wyse Expands Cloud VDI Packages

Dell and its new in-house virtual desktop supplier, Wyse, have announced new and upgraded cloud client computing packages geared expressly for VMware shops.

The company made the announcement at VMworld Europe 2012 in Barcelona, which continues through 11 October.

Virtual Desktops

Virtual desktop implementations have come a long, long way in terms of quality and ease of deployment in the last couple of years after spending more than a decade in the doldrums.

With its new offerings, Dell is expanding its support for VMware View and its PCoIP (PC over Internet protocol) on its zero- and thin-clients, Desktop as a Service (DaaS) with PCoIP support and new channel partner solutions to Europe.

PCoIP delivers a rich remote user experience with high-definition multimedia that supports high resolution, full-frame rate 3D graphics and HD audio, multiple large displays and broad USB peripheral connectivity.

Dell said its new dual-display Dell Wyse P25 is now shipping worldwide and the quad-display Dell Wyse P45 will be available later this month. These PCoIP zero-clients support a range of peripherals, are designed for graphics-intensive applications, and feature client-side caching to reduce bandwidth consumption on LANs and WANs.

VMware Enhancements

Dell is also adding VMware-specific enhancements to its compact T50 ARM SoC thin-client and X90m7 mobile thin-client. PCoIP support has been added to the T50, expanding its ability to deliver outstanding graphics and multimedia performance for VMware deployments.

The X90m7 mobile thin-client now supports the Windows Embedded Standard 7 Premium operating system with VMware View Local Mode, providing mobile users with the flexibility to take their session with them.

All the new VDI products will become available by the end of the calendar year, Dell said.
