Dell Streak 7 Priced At £300 For UK Users
UK users can get their hands on an Dell’s Android tablet for just under £300
PC maker Dell has updated its Streak tablet range with the news that its 7 inch device, the Dell Streak 7, is available now for UK users from Dell Direct for £299, including VAT and shipping.
Measuring 199.9×119.8×12.4 mm, the 7 inch Streak was officially unveiled at the CES Show in Las Vegas in January, and its arrival expands Dell’s tablet range, joining the five-inch Streak tablet, which arrived in the UK on the O2 network in June 2010.
Despite arriving relatively early on the scene, early reviewers found the 5 inch version a bit awkward, as it was overly big for a smartphone but a touch small for a tablet. And sales of the device failed to dent the challenge posed by the Apple iPad.
Family Friendly
In November Dell’s Ron Garriques, the president of the communication solutions group and the man who oversaw the development of the Streak announced he was leaving the company.
But Dell is hoping that the bigger version that comes with a 7 inch screen will appeal, as it is a form factor that Dell is touting as “family friendly”. A 10 inch version, the Dell Streak 10, is expected to launch mid-June with Honeycomb.
It will join rivals such as the HTC Flyer and BlackBerry PlayBook. However the Streak’s display has only a 800×480 resolution.
Tech Specs
The Streak 7 is currently Wi-Fi only (802.11b/g/n). A combined WiFi and 3G version is due soon. Onboard the tablet includes a 1GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor and 16GB of internal storage. 32GB additional storage can be added using the user accessible SD, MMC, SDHC memory card slot. GPS and Bluetooth are also included.
The Streak 7 runs Android 2.2 Froyo, and Dell has hinted at possible Gingerbread option as it comes with over-the-air upgrade capability for future OS releases.
Other features include Gorilla Glass to make the tablet that much harder to break, but more importantly it offers full Adobe Flash 10.1 support, coupled with a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, so users can enjoy video calls on Skype or Qik. It also has rear facing 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and a flash.
