Dell Releases New Ultraportable Vostro V130

Dell has taken the wraps off its latest offering geared toward highly mobile staff with the introduction of the Vostro V130 notebook computer.

The company claimed the Vostro V130 as one of the thinnest (as thin as 0.65″ in the front to 0.78″ in the rear) and lightest (starting at 3.5 pounds) ultraportable 13-inch laptops available and includes colour options Lucerne Red and Aberdeen Silver.

Construction includes an anodized-aluminium case, zinc hinges and a magnesium alloy palm rest. The Vostro V130 is available worldwide starting at $429 (£360).

New Cooling Option

In addition, the V130 offers Hyperbaric Cooling, an Intel Advanced Cooling Technology to help it stay quiet (less fan noise as it needs less cooling) and cool (especially on the exterior, where users are likely to feel it most).

Additional features include an HDMI port for connection to a High Definition (HD) TV or projector and the ability to back up or connect devices and peripherals using more ports: the two USB 2.0 ports, shared USB/eSATA port and VGA.

To increase productivity, the notebook can run Windows 7 while performing everyday tasks thanks to the new Intel Core ULV processor (Core i3 and Core i5), full-sized keyboard and 13.3-inch High Definition 1366×768 WLED display.

Also included is 802.11n wireless technology, optional WiMAX technology capability, up to Intel Core i5 processors and 4GB of double data rate 3 (DDR3) SDRAM memory and a built-in 2 megapixel web cam.

Businesses can also transfer photos and videos to and from the Vostro V130 with the five-in-one media card reader.

A free-fall sensor on the Vostro V130 helps to protect the hard drive against system drops. Businesses can also choose a solid-state drive (SSD) for data storage with no moving parts. Other features include an integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator video card, 6-cell Lithium Ion sealed battery, mobile Intel HM57 Express chipset and optional certified data destruction, which destroys data, provides certification of destruction, and disposes of the disk.

Businesses also have the option of signing up for Dell DataSafe Online, which helps protect music, photos and other important files by placing backup copies on a secure storage site using the user’s Internet connection. For security all data is encrypted and compressed before ever leaving the user’s computer. Businesses can restore or access their data from multiple PCs with Dell DataSafe Online if they lose their original files.

Improved Connectivity

“When we debutted the Vostro V13 last year, we received an incredible response from entrepreneurs worldwide: its ultraportable, sleek design making it one of the sexiest small business laptops on the market to date,” a company spokesman wrote on Dell’s official blog. “Well, we’ve upped the ante with new connectivity features based directly on your feedback.”

Dell also recently announced the release of the Inspiron Duo Convertible tablet, sporting a flip design lets users switch from touch to type, listen to music, use as an alarm clock or view photos with the Inspiron duo Audio Station and read books, watch movies and play games on the 10-inch high-definition (HD) display. The Flash-capable tablet retails for $549.99 (£461) and sports an Intel dual-core Atom processor N550, Windows 7 Home Premium with 2 GB of RAM, HD accelerator for enhanced HD playback performance, a 1.3 MP Webcam and microphone and up to 320GB SATA hard drive.
