Dell continues to push beyond its PC origins and into a full-service IT provider after it launched a new product designed for application availability and reliability.
On 17 April, the Austin, Texas-based company’s OEM Solutions unit and Kemp Technologies launched a new load balancing and application delivery controller that uses the framework of Dell’s PowerEdge R320 server.
The Kemp LoadMaster R320, which conveniently uses the same product number as the server, enables medium-to-large enterprises to obtain high availability and reliability of Web-based enterprise applications.
It enables data centre clusters powering Internet sites and large intranets to distribute network traffic among Web and application servers in an intelligent, efficient manner, the company said. A resource optimisation layer in front of applications and infrastructure servers gives IT administrators full control to adapt to network changes and enable optimal network and infrastructure performance.
The LoadMaster R320 includes advancements in Layer 4 and 7 load balancing, content switching, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) acceleration, Layer 7 content switching, caching, compression, intrusion prevention, IP and Layer 7 persistence, the company said.
All Kemp load balancers are optimised for a broad range of IP applications that include core Microsoft Enterprise workloads such as Exchange, Lync, SharePoint, RDS and Dynamics.
Using Dell’s Integrated Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) with Lifecycle Controller in the Dell PowerEdge server, IT administrators can manage and monitor the LoadMaster R320 and Dell application servers using a common enterprise management platform. Customers can track and receive alerts about hardware issues, perform remote management and minimise the need for physical access to the appliance through out-of-band management.
