Dell IaaS Cloud To Land In Europe On 31 August
Dell is bringing its IaaS service to Europe soon
Dell is bringing its Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) product to Europe on 31 August, as the Texan firm spreads its cloud computing service globally.
The Dell Cloud with VMware vCloud Datacenter Service seeks to offer a secure public cloud service, offering active monitoring from SecureWorks and data encryption services from Trend Micro.
Customers will also be able to take advantage of ProSupport, offering constant phone support if issues arise.
Dell thinks its solution is ideal for those companies already using private clouds, as they can extend their VMware virtual workloads out to the public cloud with greater ease thanks to the infrastructural similarities across the data centres.
Journey to the cloud
“Our goal is to help make the journey to the cloud easy, secure and accessible for customers of all sizes,” said Ricky Santos, vice president for cloud solutions for Dell. “The Dell Cloud with VMware vCloud Datacenter Service gives customers control and flexibility to manage and extend IT resources for private, public or hybrid cloud without having to retrain IT staff. Our Dell Services experts can help guide them as they experiment and implement a solution that fits within their IT environments.”
Dell is entering a busy IaaS market in Europe, in which Amazon remains the dominant player. Earlier this week, it emerged Microsoft was entering the IaaS game, adding compute services to Azure, which was previously a Platform-as-a-Service-only offering.
The Texan vendor is looking to challenge in other data centre-focused areas too, as earlier this week it produced a Converged Blade Data Centre, bringing together Dell’s 12th Generation PowerEdge servers, EqualLogic storage blade arrays and Force10 MXL blade switching to create a modular solution that can sit within a single blade enclosure. It means the company will be going up against the likes of Cisco, HP and IBM, who have all been pushing their converged architectures in recent months.
