CES 2014: Alcatel Goes POP With New Smartphone, Tablet Releases

Alcatel has signalled its move into the oversized handset market with the announcement of the POP C9, a colourful 5.5-inch Android 4.2 handset.

Acting as an extension to the company’s existing smartphone lines, the POP C9 is powered by a 1.3GHz Quad Core processor, and comes with an 8MP real camera which is capable of capturing 1080p HD video.

The device is available in five colours, similar to the iPhone 5C, offering you the chance to personalise your smartphone in your favourite shade. This personalisation also extends to the user interface, which allows customisation of your favourite apps and widgets.

“The POP C9 offers a big screen experience in a pocket-sized smartphone,” said Dan Dery, Alcatel Chief Marketing Officer, “Remaining true to its POP series roots, it offers a smart mix of user-focused features in a fun and colourful handset that’s crying out to be shared.”

Two tablets also arriving

The company has also announced that it will be unveiling two tablets at CES – the POP 7 and POP 8. Sporting a similarly colourful display to that of its smartphone cousins, the two tablets offer differing specifications, with the former sporting a 7” display and dual-core 1.3 GHz processor, compared to the latter’s 8” display and 1.3 Ghz quad-core processor.

“The POP 7 and POP 8 are a great first step in our product alignment for smartphones and tablets,” said Dery, “They’re firmly rooted in the unique character of the POP series: fun and colourful that offers a smart but simple user experience. There’s also much more to come as we implement our product strategy across the range.”

There’s no news on exact release date or costs as of yet, but expect further information soon when co-operating networks are confirmed.
