CES 2012: Toshiba Unveils ‘Thinnest’ Excite X10 Tablet

Toshiba has demonstrated its Excite X10 tablet at the the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

The X10 is set for launch in the first quarter of this year and the Japanese electronics firm claims that the 545 gramme, 7.7mm thick device is the thinnest and lightest tablet currently available.

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee

In a Financial Times report, a Toshiba executive said, “There are others that may be as thin, but are heavier, there may be some that are the same weight, but are thicker, so we’ve kind of got the best combination of thin and light.”

The tablet has a brushed magnesium alloy case and Corning Gorilla Glass screen with a resolution of 1280 X 800. Other features include a Micro USB port, a Micro HDMI port, and SD card slot, as well as a 1.2 Ghz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The Excite also provides two cameras, a two megapixel camera at the front and a five megapixel camera with LED flash at the rear.

Toshiba hopes to release the device running the latest version of Android, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but it may launch with 3.2 Honeycomb and release an update later, just like Asus has done with its Eee Pad Transformer Prime tablet.

The 16GB version of the Excite will cost $529 (£343), while the 32GB model is priced at $599 (£388).
