UK IT people will once again sleep on the streets in October, to raise money for homeless young people, in the annual Byte Night event – and eWEEK is again taking part.
In the twelve years since it was founded, Byte Night has raised milions for the charity Action for Children, which works with homeless young people. Last year, it raised £600,000. The 2010 event was launched in London by Sir Digby Jones on 18 May, and Byte Night founder Ken Deeks hopes to make even more this time around.
The Byte Night Launch also heard from Dame Clare Tickell, chief executive of Action for Children, who described the ways in which her charity intervened to help specific people at risk of failling further into poverty. Around ten percent of children are neglected, according to the charity.
As well as supporting charitable actrion like Byte Night, Action for Children has called for investment from the new Government to break cycles of neglect and bring about long term economic benefits.
eWEEK Europe will be sleeping out in Byte Night 2010. You can donate to our page here or go to Byte Night to register and sleep out yourself.
