Branson To Unveil iPad-Based ‘Project’ Magazine

Richard Branson is reportedly planning an iPad-only magazine called ‘Project’ to rival Murdoch’s ‘Daily’ iNewspaper

Sir Richard Branson is poised to unveil a magazine designed exclusively for the iPad, following Murdoch’s move to launch an iPad-only newspaper earlier this week.

Sir Richard Branson is expected to introduce the iPad-based magazine during Virgin’s press conference in New York on 30 November.

The magazine is yet to be named, but the title of “Project” is being bandied about.

According to reports in the US media, the digital magazine will keep iPad’s users up to date on entertainment, travel, business, design and international culture.

A Quick Move Against The Daily

Branson’s magazine project comes hot on the heels of reports of a collaboration between media tycoon Rupert Murdoch and Apple CEO Steve Jobs to produce an iPad-only newspaper under the name, “The Daily”.

To read the “iNewspaper,” iPad users have to subscribe to the service at a cost of 62p a week. As for Project, there is no report on whether Branson will distribute the magazine for free or at a cost.

However, people are speculating that Project will also be used as an in-flight magazine on Virgin Airline flights.

Twenty nine-year-old Holly Branson, the daughter of Virgin’s founder, is also expected to head the project with Anthony Noguera, former Arena and FHM editor.

Meanwhile, analyst firms such as UBS Investment Research have predicted tens of millions of iPads will be sold in 2011, providing a strong incentive for app developers to cash in on the success of the device.
