Box Offers 50GB Free Storage For Life As It Relaunches iOS App

Cloud storage provider Box has updated its iOS application with a number of new features and has promised that any iPhone or iPad user who downloads the app within the next 30 days will receive 50 GB of storage for life.

The company claims the new app is faster, simpler to use and is more immersive, thanks to a new user interface, quicker document rendering and new productivity options.

“The result, we believe, is the best content viewing and collaboration experience available today for your iOS device,” says David Still, vice president of mobile products at Box. “We’re incredibly happy to offer this update to the millions of people that have already downloaded Box for iPhone and iPad and everyone else who needs to get work done on the go.”

The app can now preview more than 100 file types and promises high fidelity of rendering of documents, complete with full text search, and low-to-high resolution photo loading to make it easier to cycle through images. A new sidebar is included for featuring comments, while users can now search for files in real time and can move, copy and delete multiple files at once.

It is unclear when these new features will be included in any of Box’s applications for other mobile platforms and the company has advised that its Box for MobileIron, Box for Good Technology and Box for Aruba will continue to work as before, but will be updated in the next few months.

Box CEO Aaron Levie told the company’s Boxworks event in San Francisco last September that mobile is “the true catalyst” for the IT industry’s current transformation and said its mobile traffic was growing by 130 percent. The firm acquired French startup Folders last year, because its iOS application for viewing files in Box was better than Box’s own, according to Levie.
