Box Doubles Free Storage To 10GB And Launches £3.20 SMB Starter Plan

Box claims it has never been easier for businesses of all sizes to move their content to the cloud after it doubled the amount of free storage it offers to 10GB and introduced a new ‘Starter’ plan that offers SMBs 100GB for $5 (£3.20) per month per user.

The enterprise cloud storage provider says up to ten users can access the starter plan, which has a file size limit of 2GB, claiming the development is part of a wider trend that is giving SMBs access to the same technology as large companies.

Box says it currently has 20 million users and 180,000 businesses using its services, but says there were still many more it wanted to reach in its aim to make IT more egalitarian.

“This is an exciting and long-contemplated move, and the biggest change we’ve made to our offerings since 2010,” said Box CEO and co-founder Aaron Levie. “We want to help big businesses be as nimble as small ones, and small businesses be as scalable and global as giants.

“We’re focused on removing any and all barriers to cloud adoption. More than ever before, the economy today is driven by information and collaboration.

“Whether you’re a global corporation, a small business, or a freelancer, the key to competing is being able to securely share, manage and access your content anywhere, on any device. These new plans make the cloud more accessible than ever before.”

Part of Box’s expansion plans includes a growing presence in Europe having already announced that London would be the home of its first international headquarters last year. The firm said it planned to hire up to 100 people in Europe by the end of 2013.
