BMC Buys Database Specialist GridApp
BMC has extended its system management portfolio with the acquisition of database automation specialist GridApp Systems
BMC Software has made its second acquisition in as many months, with the purchase of database automation vendor GridApp Systems for an undisclosed sum.
Founded in 2002, GridApp focuses on automating database provisioning, patching and administration. The GridApp solution is already integrated with BMC BladeLogic Server Automation, and cuts cost, complexity and risk associated with deploying and configuring enterprise databases in physical, virtual and cloud environments, BMC said in its announcement of the deal.
Cloud Database Management
According to BMC, GridApp’s automation capabilities will also extend the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management solution, empowering more IT staffers to request and manage database resources in cloud environments.
“BMC’s Business Service Management (BSM) platform is a critical component for so many world-class companies because it has continued to aggressively advance its mission of simplifying and automating IT, enabling it to respond adeptly to the needs and priorities of the business,” said Scott Fulton, BMC’s vice president and general manager for Service Automation, in a statement.
“The acquisition of GridApp not only adds substantive automation capabilities to our portfolio, but also strengthens the overall BSM platform – creating the most efficient, consistent and comprehensive path to IT value in the industry today,” he added.
Earlier this year, BMC rival Hewlett-Packard bought GridApp competitor Stratavia.
