Vodafone Restoring BlackBerry Services In UK After Router Error
BlackBerry customers on Vodafone in the UK are affected by another service disruption
Vodafone is restoring a number of services to its BlackBerry customers following an outage caused by a router error.
Customers across Europe, Middle East and Africa were apparently unable to access services such as email and BlackBerry Messenger, although voice and text services are believed to have been unaffected.
Vodafone BlackBerry outage
“Vodafone can confirm that some BlackBerry customers experienced issues with their data services this morning in Europe, Middle East and Africa. The issue was caused by a router error,” a Vodafone Group spokesperson told TechWeekEurope.
“Services are in the process of being restored and we continue to monitor the situation closely. We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused and we will provide updates as necessary.”
“All BlackBerry services are operating normally but we are aware that a wider Vodafone service issue is impacting some of our BlackBerry customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa,” RIMS said in a statement.
“We are supporting Vodafone’s efforts to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”
The problem appears to have been at Vodafone’s end as BlackBerry users on other operators appear to be unaffected. This is in contrast to the last outage to affect Vodafone BlackBerry customers back in September, where the operator shifted the blame onto the Canadian manufacturer.
The outage could not come at a worse time for RIM, which is planning to launch its first smartphones running the perpetually-delayed BlackBerry 10 operating system later this month. The company’s reputation suffered following a major worldwide outage in October 2011.
