Two Thirds Of TechWeek Readers Back BlackBerry To Remain Independent

The overwhelming majority of TechWeekEurope readers believe that BlackBerry will overcome its problems and remain independent, according to the results of our latest poll, which asked who would own it in 2014.

Numerous companies have been linked with a possible takeover of BlackBerry, which has experienced a turbulent few years, but 65 percent of our readers share the company’s belief that it can turn things around.

Will BlackBerry crumble?

Of the remaining 35 percent who begged to differ, the most likely suitor was Microsoft, which attracted 9.7 percent of the vote, despite the fact that it is pushing its own competing Windows Phone platform.

Google was suggested by 7.6 of readers who thought that the company would be interesting in adding to its acquisition of Motorola Mobility. The next most popular answer was Lenovo, with 5.3 percent wondering whether BlackBerry would make a suitable smartphone companion to the PC business it acquired from IBM a few years ago.

Huawei was not too far behind, with 5.2 percent, while Facebook was considered a likely bidder by just 3.9 percent of you. Interestingly, our readers think Apple is more likely to take control of BlackBerry than HP, which props up the table with 1.5 percent of the vote.
