A start-up competition will send the owner of a young UK company on an all-expenses paid trip to Tel Aviv.
Organised by the City of Tel Aviv, Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and The Next Web, second annual Bizcamp Tel Aviv will offer the winner five days of seminars, workshops and networking events.
To participate in the competition, all that’s necessary is to fill in the online entry form on the Bizcamp Tel Aviv website. Entries are open until 2 September.
Israel spends a whopping 4.5 percent of its GDP on research and development, and as a result of such government support, around half of its exports are hi-tech products. Technology invented in the country ranges from digital printing and VoIP to the infrared scanners used in Xbox Kinect, as well as WiMAX and the technique of capsule endoscopy, popularly known as the ‘PillCam’. Outbrain, the content marketing platform which you can see implemented on our website, also hails from Israel.
To participate, start-ups have to register on the website, with their business prospects subsequently evaluated by a judging panel consisting of journalists, venture capitalists and successful entrepreneurs. The UK competition will culminate in a live Grand Final event in London on 12th September.
Winners will travel to Tel Aviv to learn, hone their pitches and possibly even get funding from local investors. There’s also a cultural programme which includes barbecues on the beach, a tour of Jerusalem, a chance to take a dip in the Dead Sea and participation in the DLD Innovation Festival.
“I have heard Israel referred to as the world’s biggest start-up. If that is true, then the dynamic start-up community in Tel Aviv is its beating heart. Bizcamp is an oppportunity to experience at first-hand the energy which permeates the streets of Tel Aviv. It is a chance to be inspired, and forge life-long friendships,” commented Daniel Taub, Ambassador of Israel to the UK, and one of the competition judges.
