Asus Padfone 2 Specifications Leaked

Italian website EEEPC.it has discovered more details about the upcoming Asus Padfone 2 – a smartphone that can be plugged into a tablet to bring it to life, in situations when a bigger screen and more battery power would be an advantage.

According to the leaked design documents, the updated Padfone will have more of everything – bigger screen, more powerful processor, more RAM and even LTE support.

Earlier, Asus had already sent out invitations for a 16 October launch event, simultaneously held in Milan,Italy and Taipei,Taiwan.

Padfone 2: Revenge of the Fallen

The original Padfone was announced by Asus at Computex IT conference in May 2011, where the design raised quite a few eyebrows. More details about the smartphone/tablet combo surfaced at this year’s Mobile World Congress, and it finally went on sale in April. The unusual system consists of two Android-powered devices which can be physically combined to share storage, battery and Internet connection.

According to EEEPC.it the Padfone 2 will be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, whereas its predecessor was equipped with a dual-core chip. The amount of RAM will increase to 2GB, and the screen size will grow an additional 0.4 inches, to accommodate a 720 x 1280 HD display.

Padfone 2 will swipe the old eight-megapixel camera for a 13-megapixel snapper with LED flash, capable of full HD (1080p) video recording. An improved secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera will improve the quality of video calls.

The bigger screen will require a bigger 2,140 mAh battery, as opposed to 1520 mAh in the regular Padfone, and also add six grams of weight.

Rumours also suggest it will support Near Field Communication (NFC), and even 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE).

There are currently no details about the tablet that will be powered by the phone.
