Applications Open For Green Enterprise IT Awards
Data centre managers will have a chance to show off their green IT projects at the Uptime Institute’s GEIT Awards
Organisations and individuals who have led pioneering projects to improve the sustainability of their data centres can now put themselves up for industry recognition.
The Uptime Institute has announced it is accepting applications for its 2011 Green Enterprise IT (GEIT) Awards, which recognise projects, ideas and products that significantly improve energy productivity and resource use in IT.
The GEIT Awards are open to applicants worldwide, and winners will be invited to present case studies of their cutting-edge innovations at the Uptime Institute Symposium in California in May 2011. Applications must be submitted before 18 February.
Green data centre advancements
“Entries for Uptime Institute’s GEIT Awards have been increasing at a rate of 50 percent per year, which reflects the growing number of ‘green’ advancements in the data centre and IT sectors,” said Andy Lawrence, Conference Director for Uptime Institute Symposium. “Winners are given a platform to share effective ways to reduce energy consumption with their industry peers, as well as the opportunity to learn from other best-in-class winners.”
The GEIT Awards are judged by a committee of independent experts. Previous winners include Hewlett-Packard, Helsingin Energia, Schneider Electric, and the University of Notre Dame.
There are ten different award categories, ranging from “Audacious Idea” to “Outstanding Hosting, Colocation, Cloud or Managed Services”. This year also sees the introduction of a new category: “Innovation in a Smaller Data Centre”. For a full list of categories, visit the Uptime Institute Symposium site here.
