Apple Adds Force Touch Trackpad To 15-Inch MacBook Pro, Releases Cheaper Retina iMac

Apple has updated the 15-inch version of the MacBook Pro, adding the ‘Force Touch’ trackpad to the model, and has also introduced a cheaper edition of the all-in-one iMac with 5K Retina Display.

The Force Touch trackpad supports custom clicks depending on the amount of pressure that is applied. For example, a light click, followed by a deeper press could summon the definition of a word.

It was added to the 13-inch version of the MacBook Pro in March, but its bigger brother has had to wait a little longer for the same treatment.

Other improvements include flash storage that claims to be 2.5 times faster than the previous iteration, superior AMD Radeon R9 graphics and an extra hour of battery life.

The entry level configuration costs £1,599 and comes with a 2.2GHz quad core Intel i7 processor (with turbo boost capability of up to 3.4GHz), 16GB of RAM and 256GB of flash storage. More powerful specs will inevitable increase the price.

The new, marginally more budget friendly, 27-inch iMac with Retina Display costs £1,599 while the more expensive and powerful version now costs £1,849. For the cheaper price, you get a 3.3GHz quad-core Intel i5 processor, 8GB memory and 1TB of storage.

“Customers love the ground-breaking iMac with Retina 5K display, and now with a new lower starting price, even more people can experience the best desktop we’ve ever made,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s head of marketing.

Naturally, both computers ship with the latest version of Apple’s operating system, OS X Yosemite.
