Willow Glass Apple iWatch Being Tested – Report

Apple is reportedly testing a smart watch featuring curved glass at its headquarters in Cupertino, California.

The New York Times claims that the iPhone manufacturer has been experimenting with a number of designs and believes that its understanding of how glass can curve around the human body would differentiate it from similar devices.

The iWatch could use thin and flexible Willow Glass, a product developed by Gorilla Glass-manufacturer Corning. Willow Glass has been in development for around a decade and can apparently bend without breaking.

It has been speculated that the iWatch could include mapping software, voice recognition software Siri and could even be used for mobile payments. It is expected that it will interact with iPhones and iPads.

Apple has long been rumoured to be preparing a smart watch, or iWatch, possibly running version 7.0 of its iOS mobile operating system. In January, it was reported that Apple was working with Intel on a Bluetooth-enabled device featuring a 1.5-inch OLED screen.

Last week, Apple hired OLED expert Dr James (Jueng-Gil) Lee from LG where he was apparently working on the company’s efforts to build a printed AMOLED television.  It has been suggested that Apple could be working on a similar television or could simply be hoping to decrease its dependency on UK suppliers.
