Amazon Goes After Dropbox With File Sync

Amazon has finally added a file sync feature to its Cloud Drive, meaning it will go into closer competition with Dropbox and the slew of other firms operating in the sphere.

The addition comes as part of an  updated Cloud Drive Desktop app, for Windows and Mac, which stores files in Amazon’s vast cloud data centres.

Amazon vs. Dropbox vs. The Rest

“Previously, customers have been able to upload files from their computer to Cloud Drive, but with the new app, they can now manage the files in both places and across computers, so they always have the latest version at their fingertips,” said Russell Dicker, director of Amazon Cloud Drive.

“The new desktop app takes advantage of Amazon’s robust web services infrastructure to provide a secure, simple sync experience that makes protecting and managing files simple and straightforward.”

File sync is a busy area now that Dropbox has proven it’s a popular feature amongst end users. Players like Box believe they have the right level of security to run

Others, like F-Secure, tend to go down the channel route, supplying major telecoms companies with the technology, who then offer their branded sync services to customers.

It appears smaller players like Evernote are bidding for a piece of the pie too, as they grow into more than just productivity software providers.
