Acer Launches Energy Efficient Low-Cost Desktop

Acer has released the Veriton X270 desktop PC, adding a new desktop to its Veriton line of business desktops.

While Acer is primarily known for its line of inexpensive laptops for consumers, the company does offer some business notebooks and desktops that are geared toward midmarket and small and midsized business. Within those markets, Acer competes with the likes of Hewlett-Packard, Dell and Toshiba.

The Veriton X270, which starts at £322, comes with a choice of Intel processors that includes the Intel Core 2 Duo. Also included is up to 500GB of ATA hard-disk technology and 4GB of DDR2 (double data rate 2) SDRAM (synchronous dynamic RAM) memory.

Improved picture and streaming video quality come courtesy of Nvidia GeForce 7100 graphics and PureVideo HD technology. Acer suggests these are ideal for video conferencing—along with the desktop’s embedded 5.1-channel surround sound audio capabilities.

On the design front, the Veriton X270 is housed in a 10-liter case—this small form-factor category can run up to 16 liters—making it a companionable cubicle mate.

The power button is conveniently located at the top of the chassis—which has also been spiffed up—the optical disk drive is doorless, for easier use, and nine USB 2.0 ports are positioned on the front and rear of the chassis for conveniently connecting to peripherals.

Administrators can push security updates to the X270 even when it’s not powered on, and the desktop’s removable data devices and optical drives are password-protected. An eSATA (external Serial ATA) drive backs up larger files, and adjustments to the system can be made via Acer’s Empowering Technology management suite.

The Veriton X270 runs the Microsoft Windows Vista Business operating system.
