Acer Honeycomb Tablets To Hit UK In Late April

Acer is to launch its 7-inch Iconia Tab A100 tablet in the UK on 20 April, the company has revealed.

The A100 is one of the lowest-cost tablets running Google’s Android Honeycomb operating system to have been announced so far in the UK. It will sell for an initial £300, according to an Amazon.co.uk pre-order page.

A500 also set for launch

On the same day Acer will also launch the A500, which has a 10.1-inch screen and will sell for £450. It is part of a range including Iconia smartphones announced at Mobile World congress in February.

The A100 has a 1,024 x 600 screen resolution and is powered by a 1GHz Tegra 250 dual-core processor.

It supports micro-SD and HDMI, and includes an 8GB hard drive, 500MB RAM and a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. 3G can be added for another £100.

The A100 has a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera, a front-facing 2-megapixel camera and weighs in at 470g.

Acer is upstaging its own launch with the Iconia Tab W500, which runs Windows 7 and is due to arrive in UK shops this week.

Windows-based tablet

It costs the same as the upcoming A500 (£450 for the Wi-Fi-only model) and uses a 1GHz dual-core C-50 processor, with 2GB of DDR3 RAM and a 32GB SSD. It will also include a keyboard, allowing for an experience harking back to the netbooks of yesteryear.

The A500 will feature a 10.1-inch LED backlit touch screen with a 1,280 x 800 resolution and support for HD 1080p video playback. It includes Adobe Flash 10.1, Adobe Reader 9.1, Bing and Microsoft Starter 2010, and USB, HDMI and Ethernet ports, as well as a two-in-one card reader.

Also launching this week in the UK are the Honeycomb-based Motorola Xoom and Asus’ Honeycomb-based Eee Pad Transformer, which includes a detachable keyboard.
