Microsoft has revealed its next version of Office, called Office 2016 will be released this year,.
Due in the second half of 2015, more details about the 2016 suite will be released in the coming months.
Julia White, general manager for the Office Product Management team, said in a blog post: “We are hard at work on the next release of the Office desktop suite that will be called Office 2016.
White said that the suite will remain as ‘comprehensive’ as users are accustomed to, best suited to keyboard and mouse.
“We have compelling new experiences coming as part of this Office suite–stay tuned to the Office Blog for more details. We expect to make Office 2016 generally available in the second half of 2015,” said White.
Office 2016 will be optimised for Windows 10, the main announcement which came from Microsoft this week. In Word 2016, White said the ‘Insights for Office’ feature powered by Bing in Read mode will bring additional online resources like images, web references and definitions to the user.
White also alluded to Microsoft’s cross-platform, touch focus, however, with Excel for Windows 10. She said: “New touch-first controls shine in Excel, you won’t even miss your keyboard and mouse when selecting ranges of cells, formatting your pie charts or managing your workbooks.”
