Salesforce has teamed up with Slack with the aim of integrating features from each other’s services over the coming months.
The first integration enables Salesforce services t be searched from within the Slack messaging service. Through the use of the /salesforce command, users can search for Salesforce data relating to customers, sales opportunities and contacts without leaving the Slack app.
“Your search will return three results, and when you click one, it will expand to provide you with basic account details right where you’re working,” said Slack.
The third incoming integration is the ability to connect Slack channels with Salesforce customer records, which enables users to see the unread message count for the connected channel and allow anyone working in the Salesforce services to see when an account is being actively discussed in Slack.
The final feature to be rolled out in the coming months is the rather simple addition of Salesforce URLs displaying better formatted information in Slack so that users can get the top level information about a customer effectively at a glance.
However, there are third-party apps that are built upon Salesforce and Slack integrations, so it will need to be see if they remain supported as Slack and Salesforce become more natively tied together; removing support could be detrimental to the app ecosystems that have built up around the services of both companies.
Aside from integrations, Salesforce appears to be expanding the scope of cloud-based services it can offer, with the recent acquisition of BeyondCore to boost its analytics services and the purchase of cloud-based word processing app Quip.
