Box To Integrate With Office 365 iOS And Office Online

Users of Microsoft Office apps on iOS and Office Online will soon be able to edit and save documents stored within Box’s cloud platform.

The two new integrations work alongside Box’s existing functionality with the desktop version of Office 365 and forms part of the company’s ambition of letting users use its service whenever and wherever they want and its vision of an open enterprise.

“We know Box is not the only place work will get done, and that’s why we support the widest number of experiences possible,” says Box CEO Aaron Levie, who praised Microsoft’s recent efforts to become more open.

“While new integrations are built for the Box platform on a daily basis – there are billions of Box API calls every month – Microsoft has made huge mobile and cross-platform strides, boldly taking an open path for Office 365. Customers and the industry are going to benefit tremendously because of this direction. “

The integrations will be available for no extra fee and Office Online functionality should appear later this month.

Box will be a member of a new advisory group for Microsoft’s extensibility plans for Office 365, which also works with Dropbox and a number of other applications. Citrix and Salesforce will also take seats on the panel.

“The Cloud Storage Partner Program for Office 365 exhibits our commitment to make Office more extensible,” said Kirk Koenigsbauer, corporate vice president of Office 365 client apps and services. “It’s a great opportunity for storage providers to enhance their existing solutions with productivity applications used by more than one billion people for communication, document creation and collaboration.”

Box finally went public last month and has made a number of moves to make its platform more appealing to enterprises, especially with regards to security. It has launched the Box Trust Partner Network, Box for EMM and most recently, enterprise key management (EKM), which it hopes will attract cloud-shy organisations in regulated markets.
