8. Smart Mirror
Fancy having an interactive dashboard in your hallway – y’know, to check what you need to do before you head out the front door? Well, thanks to the beauty of Raspberry Pi, that very thing can now be achieved.
A popular concoction of Reddit users, one in particular – a fellow by the name of FreeZey78 – has explained in a very accessible Imgur gallery how he managed to craft his incredibly smart, er, Smart Mirror.
9. Checking the line status on the London Underground
Before you rush out to sample the joys of the morning commute in the capital, it’s a sensible idea to quickly check if there might be any problems that might hamper your journey to work.
But who needs a boring app on your boring smartphone to tell you whether the Northern Line is down (again) when you can build your own Tube status device using the ever-handy Raspberry Pi technology? The folks over at Science Exposure have a very simple guide to building your own line status checker, so you’ll never need to fret again when making travel plans.
10. Track your cat
And finally – we all know that you never own a cat (the cat owns you), so when they saunter off mid-afternoon into the garden and fail to return for about 17 hours, a particular question does cross your mind: where the hell has my loyal and devoted pet gone?
Well, wonder no more: with a Pi-installed system, you can now see where your feline friend disappears off to each and every day without fail. Jeremy Wall’s system over at Hackster uses a cellular and GPS connected vest (which goes on the cat, of course) that communicates through AWS IoT – all made possible through, yes, that guy again, a Raspberry Pi (2 Model B, in this case). All hail the Pi.
