A popular concoction of Reddit users, one in particular – a fellow by the name of FreeZey78 – has explained in a very accessible Imgur gallery how he managed to craft his incredibly smart, er, Smart Mirror.

But who needs a boring app on your boring smartphone to tell you whether the Northern Line is down (again) when you can build your own Tube status device using the ever-handy Raspberry Pi technology? The folks over at Science Exposure have a very simple guide to building your own line status checker, so you’ll never need to fret again when making travel plans.

Jeremy Wall’s system over at Hackster uses a cellular and GPS connected vest (which goes on the cat, of course) that communicates through AWS IoT – all made possible through, yes, that guy again, a Raspberry Pi (2 Model B, in this case).
