Your mobile device could soon be able to defend itself against thieves by taking a photo of the miscreants, thanks to a new release from security company Bitdefender.
The firm’s updated Bitdefender Mobile Security & Antivirus product now comes with a new ‘Snap Photo’ feature which automatically captures a photo of anybody trying to access a device without the PIN number, as well as the time and date of the failed access.
It says that Smart Unlock can make users’ lives simpler by disabling PIN codes when connected to a trusted network, such as at home, eliminating a cumbersome step currently needed to access applications.
“We approached this latest upgrade to Bitdefender Mobile Security with the intention of further enhancing its strongest features – ironclad security and seamless ease of use,” states Catalin Cosoi, chief security strategist at Bitdefender.
Facial recognition has long been expected to be a key part of the next generation of security precautions, offering a unique way for customers to access their accounts.
Microsoft is probably the biggest advocate of the technology, with facial recognition being included in Windows 10. The operating system allows for fingerprint and iris recognition with Windows Hello, meaning users don’t have to worry about passwords.
Recent findings found that British consumers are increasingly likely to support and use biometrics in their technology.
A study conducted by Visa Europe found that three-quarters of 16-24 year olds in the UK would feel comfortable using information such as fingerprint scans, facial recognition or retina scanning in place of traditional passcodes.
Overall, three-quarters (76 percent) of this age group said that they would feel comfortable making a payment using biometric security, with over two thirds (69 percent) believe this will make their lives faster and easier.
