Hack/Reduce, a non-profit focused on creating talent and technologies for Boston’s big data-driven economy, today announced that more than $290,000 has been raised to fight pediatric cancer-related causes from its sold out ninth annual Tech Tackles Cancer (TTC) event. In honor of National Philanthropy Day, the organization appeals for continued support to achieve its $300k goal.
The event attracted over 400 attendees and featured a live band karaoke competition. The featured technology industry performers fundraised from their own networks and through the generous participation of corporate sponsors. The fundraiser benefitted two Boston-area philanthropies supporting those affected by pediatric cancer, St. Baldricks and One Mission.
Interested parties can watch the 2023 TTC performances on demand. TTC will continue to accept donations until December 31, 2023.
“The event surpassed all expectations, showcasing the incredible power of unity within the Boston technology community,” said Christopher Lynch, founder of TTC. “My heartfelt appreciation goes to our outstanding performers, dedicated sponsors, and generous donors. Also, a special acknowledgment to Joey Kramer’s Rockin’ and Roastin’ Coffee for its ongoing commitment to social impact, as we launch their give-back program by donating a portion of their coffee sales to TTC. We look forward to continued momentum as we make a meaningful difference for the charities that rely on our collective support.”
This year Joey Kramer, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, drummer, founding member of legendary rock band Aerosmith, and long-time coffee enthusiast, partnered with TTC. As part of his support for the event; Joey flew in from the West Coast to attend the event and donated a drum kit to the auction. While participating in the speaking program, Kramer inked a VIP (value in partnership) deal to support Tech Tackles Cancer by committing a portion of coffee sales to TTC. “Kids are dying, it’s not right and I am here, with you, to do something about it.” Check the TTC website for updates on the partnership, and consider drinking Rockin’ and Roastin’ Coffee. You’ll code faster, sell more, and jump higher, drink up!
Held at the Sinclair in Cambridge, MA, the event showcased the “battle of the technology rockstars,” where Boston-area technology executives live out their rock-and-roll dreams on stage, backed by a professional band.
This year’s award winners include:
- Best Vocals: Lily McInytre of Wasabi Technologies
- Highest Fundraiser: Mark Shirman, Snowplow
- Best Stage Presence: John Proccacini of Teksystems
TTC’s mission is to leverage the power of the Boston technology industry to raise awareness and funds supporting pediatric cancer causes. Since 2012, TTC has raised awareness and funds totaling over $3M in donations for organizations focused on pediatric cancer treatment and research.
The date and location for the Tenth anniversary of Tech Tackles Cancer (2024) will be announced early next year. To learn more about how you can get involved, please visit techtacklesx.org for additional information.
