A data analysis from Relatient, the leading patient scheduling platform, finds private equity-affiliated healthcare organizations that use Relatient’s intelligent patient access solutions achieve an 11% increase in appointment availability, on average, within the first year of implementation. Relatient’s solutions support these organizations’ operational growth, providing tools like rules-based patient scheduling to help increase new patient acquisition and reduce scheduling errors.

Private equity-affiliated health organizations like Management Services Organizations (MSOs) are poised for dramatic growth in the next several years, and many of these organizations can add up to five to ten locations per quarter. However, this rapid expansion can be challenging to manage. Many of these locations use disjointed, legacy systems, including paper-based processes and three-ring binders, to manage increasingly complex patient scheduling and engagement needs. MSOs struggle to achieve operational efficiencies and improve patient volume when they cannot easily manage patient access and administrative processes consistently across multiple locations.

“PE-affiliated organizations offer the best of both worlds, allowing patients to see their trusted local doctors, while also enjoying digital tools like online scheduling, easy digital payment and two-way messaging chat that they’d expect from larger entities,” said Jeff Gartland, CEO at Relatient. “But implementing these enhanced offerings across multiple practice operations and tech stacks can be challenging. Relatient’s platform approach enables organizations to standardize key elements of the patient experience like patient access and appointment management, ensuring consistency while still allowing for personalized flexibility by location, opening more opportunities for growth without sacrificing patient experiences.”

Relatient’s intelligent patient access solutions, including centralized scheduling, patient self-scheduling, eRegistration, secure two-way chat and messaging, and digital payments, have accelerated MSO growth across locations and regions. On average, Relatient’s work with PE-affiliated health organizations has helped these clients achieve significant improvements in patient access, such as:

  • 65% of appointments booked through patient self-scheduling are new patients
  • 14% reduction in no-shows for referral appointments booked digitally
  • 49% reduction in scheduling errors compared to appointments scheduled directly in the EHR
  • More than 5 million patient communications sent in the first half of 2024 to remind and encourage patients to manage their appointments

“Private equity-affiliated health organizations are often challenged with managing the diverse needs of providers and staff across the different groups while simultaneously scaling operations and meeting patient expectations for convenience,” said Judy Eustace, SVP of Strategy and Growth from United Musculoskeletal Partners. “Relatient has helped us streamline scheduling and access options for patients, while also giving providers and administrators easy-to-use tools that fit within their existing workflows. The scalable platform aligns with our strategic vision of increasing access to high-quality care across the UMP footprint.”

Relatient is on track to book nearly 1.5 million patient appointments and facilitate more than 10.5 million patient touchpoints through email, text and voice calls on behalf of its PE-affiliated clients in 2024.
