Investigators face challenges collecting evidence on-site due to limited portable tools (many forensic devices are lab-based and hard to transport), time-sensitive conditions (evidence can degrade quickly and needs immediate processing), poor lighting or outdoor settings (environmental factors can obscure evidence), contamination risks (moving evidence to labs increases the chances of mishandling), and the difficulty of transporting bulky equipment (large tools and evidence are hard to secure and manage).

The Regula 3116 kit solves many of these issues, providing investigators with four high-intensity portable light sources: blue (450 nm), white, infrared (850 nm), and ultraviolet (365 nm). All of them are equipped with long-lasting LED lights that maintain consistent intensity. The wide spectrum and stable lighting allow forensic experts to effectively detect and visualize various crime evidence right on-site. The compact kit is housed in a custom-designed case, ensuring secure storage and easy portability to any location.

The Regula 3116 is tailored to meet the needs of crime scene investigation teams; forensic laboratories specializing in fingerprint, ballistic, trace evidence, and biological analysis; and educational institutions that train future forensic professionals.

To ensure the expert’s safety, the kit includes viewing goggles with light filters for observing blue light fluorescence and working with ultraviolet light. Additionally, a special shutter blocks the lateral flow of light.

The Regula 3116 capturing device is equipped with two cameras, a regular one and a special infrared one to enable efficient evidence visualization under infrared light.

Each of the forensic light sources of the Regula 3116 and the capturing device feature universal mounts, allowing them to be configured in various setups on a dedicated handle, tripod, or pantograph. This enables the expert to keep their hands free during laboratory examinations, or to securely position the light source and capturing device while working at a crime scene.

With eight removable batteries (two for each light source plus two additional ones), an adapter, and a power supply unit, the Regula 3116 Forensic Light Kit offers flexible power options to support extended fieldwork.

Regula 3116 light sources are equipped with passive cooling systems to ensure that air remains contained within the device, avoiding the release of airflow into the environment. Unlike active cooling systems that can transfer microscopic particles, passive cooling eliminates the risk of cross-contamination between crime scenes. This is crucial when handling sensitive evidence, where even the slightest contamination could compromise forensic results and the integrity of legal proceedings.

“The Regula 3116 is developed with flexibility and user convenience in mind. With it, crime investigators can efficiently capture crucial evidence, regardless of the environment. Portable and lightweight, our forensic light kit is indispensable for specialists working at crime scenes. Plus, it is equally effective for trace examination in laboratory conditions. We are proud to offer yet another tool that supports the essential work of forensic professionals in identifying and documenting evidence with accuracy and reliability,” said Alex Lewanowicz, Director of Hardware Engineering at Regula.

The Regula 3116 is another addition to the Regula family of portable tools designed for crime scene investigation. Earlier, the company introduced a unique compact spectrometer-microscope, the Regula 5006, which helps forensic experts search for and examine crime evidence right on-site with high-precision 300x on-screen magnification. Now, with the release of its brand-new Forensic Light Kit, Regula has expanded its position in the market for crime scene investigation tools.
