ATX Networks, a global leader in broadband access and media distribution solutions, announced the general availability of DVIS™ II, the company’s next-generation, IP-based local channel insertion platform. ATX will showcase the platform in a live demonstration at SCTE® TechExpo 2024, the annual cable industry conference and exhibition that takes place September 24-26, in Atlanta, Ga.

“ATX timed the availability of DVIS II with the growing need among MSOs converting their services to IP to continue to provide their customers with dedicated channels carrying local information vital to guests and residents,” said Jeff McInnis, General Manager of Media Distribution at ATX. “DVIS II leverages the openness and flexibility of IP to provide MSOs with expanded deployment flexibility, as well as the opportunity to enrich the end-user experience while reducing operational costs.”

Residents of communal environments, including apartment complexes, retirement facilities and other multi-dwelling units (MDUs), rely on local content inserted into television lineups for personalized news and information, as well as security. The transition of video to IP means that video service providers will need to update their installed base of mostly QAM-based channel insertion equipment to continue to supply their commercial accounts with this customer-critical service.

Capable of supporting both IP- and QAM-based output, DVIS II enables a gradual transition to IP by allowing service providers to simultaneously support local insertion at properties with a mix of QAM and IP endpoints. DVIS II is managed by ATX’s Visium™ Manager, an all-purpose element management system that can control Visium MD multimedia gateways and the Visium Set-Back Box (SBB) security adapter, significantly simplifying the installation, monitoring and maintenance of potentially thousands of DVIS II encoders.

The DVIS II platform consists of a low-cost, premises-located edge encoder paired with ATX’s Visium Enhanced Origin Server, a low-latency software engine that offers the flexibility to be hosted within an MSO datacenter, the public cloud or even on the premises of large enterprise customers with local area networks. ATX’s Enhanced Origin Server also features customizable authentication and authorization functionality to ensure that only end clients associated with the appropriate accounts receive the local content.

ATX will demonstrate the flexibility and capabilities of the newly released platform at its TechExpo booth (1015), along with the Visium MVP, an IP-capable managed video platform designed for the specific needs of small and medium businesses, including restaurants, sports bars, fitness clubs, doctors’ offices or any venue providing patrons with video content across multiple televisions.
