BT Boosts Infinity Broadband Connections To 78Mbps For 46,000 Businesses

BT has automatically boosted the broadband speeds of 46,000 UK businesses on its fibre broadband, giving them speeds of up to 76Mbps.

The telecoms giant claimed it has doubled the speed of the businesses’ connections without needing them to lift a finger. Previously, customers on the BT Business Infinity connection had received speeds of up to 38Mbps.

Rather than be seen as a purely philanthropic move, BT is using this broadband boost to champion how its customers “now receive some of the fasted business broadband speeds generally available in the UK”.

With fibre broadband for businesses becoming an ever more competitive arena, it is no surprise BT wants to keep it business customers happy and content with its services by accelerating their connection speeds.

Better broadband for SMEs

“We’re helping UK SMEs work smarter and faster in the office – and on the move – as they increasingly embrace cloud-based services. By making 76Mbps our new standard business fibre broadband speed we are ensuring brilliant connectivity at a speed that will enable them to grow and thrive. Add to this our superfast 4G mobile network and our customers really are better connected than ever before,” said Mike Tomlinson, managing director of UK SME at BT.

Amongst the hyperbole, Tomlinson certainly makes a point about the need for businesses to have solid and speedy broadband connections, particularly if they are of the small to medium variety whereby the flexibility and scalable cloud services that a fast Internet connection enables can help these companies run a lean and mean operation, which in the current economic climate can mean the difference between success and failure.

BT is looking to further sweeten its Business Infinity broadband deal by offering not only a speed boost but also a reduced monthly cost of £14 alongside line rental fees, if new customers sign up before November 28.

The telecoms company looks to be taking this approach to fend of competition in the business market from the likes of Virgin Media which is doggedly rolling out its cable services to as many parts of the UK as possible, including 13,000 ne Redrow homes.
