EE says roaming issues that have stopped customers from making calls, sending texts or accessing data services abroad have now been fixed.
Holidaymakers and business travellers reported coverage issues in several countries over the past few days, expressing their dismay at being unable to communicate.
The operator has apologised and says anyone still having problems should turn flight mode on and off or perform the tried and IT solution of turning the phone on and off again.
“Customers still having trouble connecting should restart their device or turn flight mode on and off as that may help them reconnect more quickly. We know how frustrating it can be to lose connectivity, and we’re very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.”
The operator is still unable to say which countries were affected, what caused the issues or whether it was the fault of EE or one of its network partners.
Customers flocked to Twitter to voice their frustration about the outage, including the band Bastille and professional boxer Bradley Skeete.
EE’s network in the UK has suffered from a number of outages in the past, including one earlier this year caused by an issue with a data centre.
It launched 4G roaming in 2014, but was forced to refund some customers for a VAT billing error in 2015. A credit was applied to affected accounts for the roaming miscalculation, which occurred between October 2012 and October 2014.
