EE Chargers Power Up Glastonbury Festival 2015

This year’s Glastonbury Festival will be the most mobile-friendly yet, thanks to EE.

The operator will its third year as the festival’s official technology and communications partner by providing an easy way to stay charged up, thanks to its EE Power Bars.

Alongside this, EE will also be deploying its mobile 4G network across the festival site, using six mobile masts, and has also launched a brand new PAYG offer designed to help customers get the most from the upcoming festival season.

EE will be keeping its customers charged up at the festival with two Power Bar Exchange points on site this year, which are able to accommodate over 200,000 Power Bar swaps during the festival weekend.

To take advantage of the facilities, customers must have an official 2015 EE Power Bar (pictured left) and will need to register for a special wristband by June 7, with details being sent out two weeks before.

Non-EE customers can pay £20 to take part in the scheme, which is free to all EE, Orange or T-Mobile customers, with everyone allowed one swap per day.

The company will also be offering all festival goers access to traditional charging in the EE Recharge tent, free of charge.

“Our Power Bar phone charging initiative began at Glastonbury in 2014 and proved so popular that we launched it last month as a year-round loyalty scheme for all customers,” said  Spencer McHugh, EE’s director of brand.

“We received over a million requests in just four days, so to say there is huge demand for this simple charging solution is an understatement, and at festivals the need for a fully-charged phone is even greater.

The company says that customers uploaded the equivalent of 1.5 million pictures during last year’s festival, as well as downloading 2.5 terabytes of data.

“For us, this is just the next step in making the UK’s best-loved festival even better connected,” McHugh added.

Last year’s Glastonbury Festival saw EE introduce mobile hotspots around the site inside fibreglass cows, although it’s not clear if they will make a return for this year’s event.
