BT And Darktrace Team Up To Offer Threat Detection To Customers

BT will offer Darktrace’s ‘Enterprise Immune System’ to customers through BT Assure managed security services and will use the technology boost its own defences from threats.

Enterprise Immune System can detect all kinds of threat present on a network and provides real time data to organisations and security analysts, allowing them to better understand the nature of attacks and to mitigate the actions of the perpetrators.

Using machine learning, the system creates a ‘normal’ behaviour pattern for every device, user and network element within an enterprise environment, alerting businesses when something changes and provides live updates on any cyber threat detected inside or outside the organisation.

Darktrace partnership

shadow IT“Darktrace’s approach to cyber security aligns and complements our own,” said Mark Hughes, president of BT Security. “The addition to our Assure portfolio will strengthen our ability to defend BT and our customers against advanced cyber threats. Their machine learning and mathematics are extremely powerful in detecting activity that is abnormal and will be critical to our future cyber security offerings.”

“We are delighted to be partnering with a global leader such as BT,” added Nicole Eagan, CEO of Darktrace. “BT has consistently supported new fundamental technologies to ensure it stays relevant and at the cutting edge of new developments and we look forward to collaborating with them to move the market towards ‘immune system’ style cyber protection.”

Darktrace was founded by alumni from GCHQ and other UK intelligence agencies and claims its mathematical approach differs significantly from previous attitudes towards cybersecurity. Some of its technology was developed at Cambridge University and the company can count former Autonomy CEO Mike Lynch among its investors.
