Vodafone Europe CEO Philipp Humm Leaves In Management Restructure

Vodafone Europe CEO Philipp Humm is to leave the British operator in a management shakeup that will see Vodafone UK head Jeroen Hoencamp elevated to the company’s executive committee.

The CEOs of Vodafone in Germany, Italy, Spain and Netherlands, the latter of which will also represent smaller European markets, will join Hoencamp on the committee, which reports to directly to group CEO Vittorio Colao.

Vodafone restructure

“These changes will simplify and streamline the management of our largest European markets and accelerate our strategic plans in those countries as convergence gathers pace and our Project Spring organic investment programme and focus on efficiency deliver visible results,” said Colao.

Humm will leave the company later this year to pursue other opportunities away from Vodafone, which he joined from T-Mobile USA in 2012. He was initially named head of Vodafone’s newly created northern and eastern European divisions before assuming control of the whole of the European business when Vodafone decided to unite its regions once again in 2013.

“I would like to thank Philipp for his significant contribution to Vodafone including leading the recovery in our European businesses and the strategic acquisition and integration of large fixed-line businesses in the UK, Spain and Germany,” added Colao. “I fully understand his desire to pursue his career ambitions outside Vodafone in light of the new organisation and wish him all the best for the future.”

Recent research from Ovum showed Vodafone was the second largest operator in the world in terms of proportionate subscriptions, second only to China Mobile and ahead of Bharti Airtel.
