Fans of fetish bonkathon Fifty Shades Of Grey have reportedly crashed the website of an artist who sells latex-based portraits of horny couples.
Brighton-based artist Michelle Mildenhall apparently found herself inundated with thousands of pounds worth of commission requests this week from Fifty Shades of Grey fans. The traffic caused her website michellemildenhall.co.uk to go temporarily offline as the hoster presumably struggled to keep up with the traffic.
Mildenhall’s PR rep told TechWeekEurope that the fans are calling on the artist to create S&M portraits of themselves and their partners, ahead of the movie’s Valentine’s Day release this weekend.
Mildenhall said: “I can’t get over the Fifty Shades effect. It has clearly introduced S&M to the mainstream and the global requests for erotic, latex commissions are increasing by the hour
Mildenhall has not, however, made any comment on her hosting provider. Today, more than ever, website owners of any size need to be aware of the danger of traffic surges, and have the resources ready at hand to deal with such an occurrence. Scalability needs to be a priority in 2015, and with Valentine’s Day on the horizon, Mildenhall could be losing out on thousands of pounds of revenue if another surge strikes.
