EE Named London’s Best Mobile Network Once Again

EE has cemented its position as the best performing mobile network in London for data, texts and calls, according to new independent tests conducted by RootMetrics.

More than 95,000 tests were conducted by the research firm, indoors, outdoors and at all times of day in order to simulate real-world conditions, with testers driving 2,448 miles around the capital.

EE was the only operator to record faster median download speeds than the UK average of 22.8Mbps, with 25.4Mbps. This was significantly faster than Vodafone’s 10.6Mbps, O2’s 8.7Mbps and Three’s 7.0Mbps.

BT’s prospective acquisition also offered the best median upload speed of 19.3Mbps, again, streets ahead of Vodafone’s 6.9Mbps, O2’s 6.2Mbps and Three’s 2.9Mbps. EE was also named the most reliable mobile Internet network, ahead of Three in second, Vodafone in third and O2 bringing up the rear.

O2 lost its position as the best network for calls, as EE and Three were named joint-best, while all four operators performed well in the text category.

“RootMetrics’ scouters drove thousands of miles to create the most comprehensive view of mobile performance in London ever delivered. It is clear that EE remains very strong in the UK’s capital city,” said Bill Moore, RootMetrics CEO.

“The network won every category and has stayed ahead of the competition consistently over the past couple of years. With all networks now offering 4G services, consumers have never had more choice between networks and we hope this data will help inform their choices when selecting a network.”

RootMetrics also rates EE as the best network across the entire of the UK, although the gap between itself and Three is closing. However the research firm was keen to point out that all four operators were making improvements in their performance.
