Tesco’s 8-Inch £99 Connect Is The First Windows 10 Tablet

Retail giant Tesco is the unlikely manufacturer of the first tablet to come pre-loaded with Windows 10 and is offering the eight inch Windows Connect tablet for just £99.

The Connect is a low-end device similar to many of the cheap Windows 8 tablets released in recent years and is powered by a 1GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM and 32GB of storage that can be doubled via a 32GB MicroSD card slot.

Also on board is a 1 USB port and 1 Micro-HDMI slot, but don’t expect it to replace your camera. The rear lens is just 2 megapixels and the front-facing sensor for Skype calls is just 0.3 megapixels. The Windows Connect also promises to offer a four hour battery life.

But the £99 price point is extremely competitive, especially when you consider it costs just £49.99 when used with Clubcard Boost, which doubles the value of any Clubcard vouchers you might have to use with certain products.

Windows 10 was made commercially available two weeks ago and promises to work the same on PCs, tablets, smartphones and other connected devices.

At eight inches in size, the Windows Connect is one of the smallest devices capable of running the main version of Windows 10, with a mobile edition of the platform set to be made available this year for smartphones and smaller tablets.

Tesco has launched two cheap Android-based tablets in the past, the Hudl and Hudl 2, but abandoned plans for a budget 4G smartphone late last year.
