Leaks Suggest Huawei P9 Will Have Two Rear Cameras

Huawei’s next flagship smartphone will feature the most advanced camera set-up of any device on the market, according to reports, which suggest the P9 will have two 12MP rear cameras capable of create highly-detailed images.

According to VentureBeat, the Huawei P9 will launch in the second half of 2016, boasting a 5.2 inch display, Huawei Kirin 955 processor and 4GB of RAM. Other reports have said that the device will feature 32GB of storage and run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Also included in the new device is a reversible USB Type-C connector, making it the first Huawei device to come with this feature, as well as a fingerprint reader located on the rear.

The company has played with dual-camera functionality in the past on its Honor smartphones, with the Honor 6 sporting a similar set-up upon its release last year.

The Huawei P9 will look to continue the company’s recent success in its smartphone offerings, which helped Huawei ship over 100 million devices last year for the first time.

Premium devices (such as the Huawei P8) played a major part in these figures, with a third of the smartphones shipping by Huawei in the third quarter costing more than 2,000 yuan (£218).

The company said that it believes the end of the decade will herald a new generation of mobile phone known as the ‘superphone’. It believes that each generation of device has a twelve-year lifespan, with the era of the smartphone starting in 2007 with the launch of the first iPhone and Android device, which in turn marked the conclusion of the feature phone era initiated by Motorola in 1995.
